Ines Fiegert (1988)

‘Where does the natural end and the artificial begin? This question runs through my work like a red thread – literally,’ says Ines Fiegert. For her, there is no question that the supposed contradiction is not one at all. It was not without reason that she began exploring bionics in design during her studies, i.e. the idea of transferring natural forms to designed objects and utilising them – both as part of a world that surrounds us humans as natural and world-shaping beings.
The connecting thread and the spanning net were the subject of her master's thesis at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. As a motif and a technique, thread and net also define her sculptural work – Fiegert trusts in their symbolic and metaphorical power, whether from an ecological, social, psychological or cultural perspective.
