Waldemar Schröder has long been a great admirer of Edgar Degas, whom he values as a painter, but especially as a sculptor. Back in 1997, he set himself the task of recreating Degas' famous wax figure from 1878 with his own hands. Strictly speaking, it is not a copy, but was shaped and designed freehand by the artist in his studio and is at the same time a deep bow to the genius of the original. It depicts the young student Marie Genevieve van Goethem, who also modelled for one of Degas' paintings.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand. Limited to 999 numbered and signed copies.
The sculptural talent of the native-born Russian Krasnoturinsk Waldemar Schröder was already visible in his childhood days: he was only 10 years old when he received his first award for a 20 cm high woodcarving ("Der Bär als Kontrabassist"). Schröder won a school competition in trade arts and crafts. So it is not surprising that his artistic life was extremely straightforward.
